theater in North America, the
Amish Experience Theater, three years in research and
planning, has been designed to break down the barrier of
audience and movie screen or stage. Changes in the
environmental space within the theater
"magically" occur and allow you to
"experience" the action along with the
characters.
Surrounded by five specially designed projection surfaces, three dimensional sound imagery, over 100,000 watts of stage lighting combined with "Pepper's Ghost" and other special effects, "Jacob's Choice" nevertheless remains a touching, personal story of an Amish family through the ages. You will experience the horrendous persecution of the Anabaptists that was so widespread throughout Europe some 450 years ago. You will join them on a perilous voyage to America where you'll learn, with words from an actual passenger diary from the year 1737, that many friends and family died before reaching the New World and their dream of a new beginning. The experience is heightened by wind and rain in the theater! "Jacob's Choice" is told through the eyes of the Fishers, an Old Order Amish family of today. You will meet grandfather, mother, father and children living together on the land, as their ancestors before them. You will learn of teenager Jacob's dilemma in having to choose between joining the Amish church or leaving behind family and community to become a part of the modern world. This difficult decision is faced by every young person, since becoming Amish is a choice, not a "given." This Amish boy's story is destined to bring to you the pain, sorrows and ultimate joy of this family with whom so many will inescapably identify. It will provide you with an intimate view of these people, who are neither "saints" nor "curiosities," but our friends and neighbors. |
